Likely Apocalypses: Environmental Disaster

When we created a list of likely apocalypses, Environmental Disaster was one of the top suggestions and fears. Let’s do a deeper dive into the end of the world at the hands of an environmental disaster. What is the Most Likely Apocalyptic Environmental Disaster? You’re probably aware of some major environmental disasters that have affected thousands or millions of lives around the world. Likely Apocalypses: World Wide Nuclear War

Let’s expand on some of the likely apocalypses we touched on back in our list of likely apocalypses. First up in the list of likely apocalypses: World Wide Nuclear War Nuclear war may be inevitable, but we have been lucky so far. However, we shouldn’t kid ourselves that the end of the cold war has made the threat of the nuclear war an irrelevance. In a lot of ways, things are more dangerous than ever. There are... Read more

Let’s make a Survival Skills Checklist!

Why should we bother making Survival Skills Checklist?! Being a survivor is about luck and preparation in varying measures. While it’s not possible to ensure luck when it comes to not being the victim or an apocalypse, it is possible to prepare in case of suck luck. Or, best case scenario, it’s possible to prepare to a point where the proportion of luck required for survival is significantly reduced. Movies, TV, Books, Comic Books, and... Read more

Nineworlds Apocalypse!

Well, I’m back from NineWorlds Geekfest, and I can’t think of a group I’d rather survive the apocalypse with. What a wonderful experience NineWorlds was. My panels went brilliantly, the other panellists were interesting and had wonderful perspectives, and our audience was clever, invested and of course, absolutely wonderful. The Ragnarok! panel did reveal just how many people are willing to resort to cannibalism though… Pictures were taken of me on the panels but they’ve... Read more

In Case of Survival - Organic Panic Logo

PAX East 2014 | Organic Panic

Organic Panic is a  puzzle-platformer about a Protein vs Produce apocalypse. Technically the protein (Meats and Cheeses) have already won and the Produce are living in fear while they’re hunted for sport. LastLimb, created by brother David and Anatole Branch, funded Organic Panic through a kickstarter campaign and got greenlit on Steam Greenlight. Obviously this game makes a good impression. But what was it like to play Organic Panic in real life? Kae and I played... Read more

Tavia - In Case of Survival - PAX East - Borderlands the Pre-Sequel

PAX East 2014 | Borderlands the Pre-Sequel

Borderlands the Pre-Sequel is set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2 (see how it’s both a prequel and sequel?) and takes place on the moon of Pandora. (Because 2K Australia was behind getting this game out, everyone on the moon is Australian.) I died a little when I heard there would be another Borderlands game AND it would be staring Claptrap! Well, Claptrap will be one a four playable characters. This game will follow the rise of Handsome Jack, who is your boss/leader.... Read more

Just Cover You Calves and Ankles

Way too often I see games, movies, tv shows and whatever else where people are trudging through the zombie apocalypse and, surprise, they get bit on the calf or ankle. Duh! Cover your calves and ankles and this problem disappears. See, when people die they fall down. On the ground. Around that area where your feet are… That area you’re not usually looking in when you’re walking forward. I see some of the best shooters... Read more

The Maw is the Most Adorable Apocalypse Ever

Most apocalyptic video games are bleak and depressing. They’re set during a time where things are going or went horribly wrong. Twisted Pixel managed to take those aspects, cover them is pink frosting and sunshine, tie it up in a bow and deliver The Maw. A similar yet very different kind of game about the apocalypse and friendship. The main, playable character in The Maw is Frank. Frank is an alien on an alien planet.... Read more

Math Apocalypse is every student’s worst nightmare

If the only way to save the world is for me to do basic math, we’re all going to die. Math Apocalypse is an Android app game that tasks you with the tremendous pressure of solving math problems to defeat aliens invading earth. Seems pretty straight forward and totally plausible to me. Aliens walk in with a math problem over their head. You tap in the (correct) answer and your character zaps them to death... Read more

Pacific Rim Review

Pacific Rim is not a hollow, soulless film about big stompy robots. Pacific Rim doesn’t treat the audience like idiots. Yet, none of you are going to see it. This is a crying shame. Pacific Rim is an impeccable summer action film. It is beautifully shot and well-told. There is nothing groundbreaking about it but if you wanted groundbreaking you wouldn’t be watching films about big mechs battling battling monstrous aliens. I Like Big Mechs... Read more
