Blog awards

I’m going to take a minute out of our heavy schedule of obsessively watching the news for zombie outbreaks to tell you that someone has FINALLY acknowledged how awesome we are by giving the blog an award or two.

They come from over at TheCabinGoddess, who gave us The Versatile Blogger award and the Liebster award.

Neither of them come with any money, but the same part of me that gets happy over achievements on 360 games is giggling and jumping up and down.

But apparently there are rules about being given them and I have to do some meme-y junk. So I’m just going to go ahead and MAKE IT UP.

Routine Will Keep You Alive in the Post-Apocalypse

ann would punch me in the face if I missed another week. We’ve got a schedule and I fail to stick to it.

If I was supposed to patrol every other night to ensure no baddies encroached on my camp, I’d be dead by my third turn. I’d forget what day of the week  it was by day four. But I am trying.

I don’t have anything to write about so I’m going to throw a bunch of links and resources at you.

1.  Nerve-Flu Pandemic Contest

The AChE (Nerve) Flu Pandemic is part of a “viral” campaign to promote our short film, and to raise awareness for ourKickstarter Campaign (http://kck.st/o8eDB4) to raise funds for our budget.

Within the universe of our film, the Nerve-Flu Pandemic caused mass-hysteria and brought the world’s societies crumbling down. The interesting twist is, as in reality, the pandemic was a work of fiction… it never existed.

JOIN THE CAMPAIGN
Help us spread the rumor of the Nerve-Flu Pandemic and we will give you a very special reward, being listed in the credits of our film as “Bringers of the Apocalypse”.

We already got someone posting a buzzfeed link about it on our Facebook group. Continue reading “Routine Will Keep You Alive in the Post-Apocalypse”

Apocalyptic Fiction: Macabry's Fail-Safe Apocalyptic Preparation Tips

I’d like to introduce to you, readers of In Case of Survival, Macabry T. Cat. What, you ask, does a Feline have anything to do with surviving the apocalypse? Let’s see here:

It has recently occurred to Macabry—what, with mystical Mayan calendars and Evangelical Christians—that the Apocalypse might be imminent.

What’s a cat to do?

Well, that depends on the form Dear Doomsday decides to take.

Apocalyptic Fiction: The Fold by Irina Goodwin

How curious, persistent and human, this desire to survive.

It started with my little brother collapsing into his cereal one morning. We were terrified because there’d been a serious bug going around school; of course our immediate thought was that he was seriously ill. We fussed and he got up, went to the kitchen sink and threw up violently but the moment my mother laid a hand on his shoulder he grabbed it and twisted, her fingers and wrist cracking horribly out of position and he bit down on her arm…

That’s how it started for us, though of course it was happening everywhere. I don’t really want to go into the details of what happened to my family suffice to say that they’re no longer with me. I ran and hid and I’ve been running and hiding ever since, avoiding anyone who looked even slightly unwell, and collecting weapons as I went. Zombie Resources From Unlikely Sources

So, zombies are all the rage in entertainment right now. They seem to also be the big thing in marketing and getting through to the masses. So much so, that even the Centers for Disease Control and PETA are on board.

You can send zombie-themed e-cards via the CDC website to encourage your friends and family to prepare for all possibilities.

Likely Apocalypses: A list

With the Rapture in the news a little while ago, Char asked all our readers what their apocalypse looked like. I commented (as did many others) but thought on it a little more. I spent quite some time thinking, and eventually, I came up with a list of apocalypses, from least likely to most likely. Then I thought of what you and yours could do to survive them.

Post-apocalyptic ceremonies.

Ceremonies are important- every human culture has them. They mark our passage through life, from birth, through adulthood, marriage, parenthood and death. Without them, your post-apocalyptic society may not collapse, but it will lack cohesion- it will be less of a society, and more of a loose collection of individuals. It’s time to think ceremony.

Now, there won;t be the time and resources to perform the ridiculous, over-ornate and costly ceremonies that exist in the west, but ceremonies will still need to exist. ANd as a leader, you will probably have to lead them, in order to solemnise them and make them seem legitimate in the eyes of your followers. Cermonies have another advantage, one the church exploited in medieval europe- if someone misbehaves, you can restrict their access to these necessary markers, effectively making them a non-person. Cunning, hey?

The Rapture

Today either is, or isn’t the Rapture. Let’s face it, probably ‘isn’t’. We’ve been getting a huge number of new visitors from Rapture based searches, and I just wanted to say: Hello, Fellow Paranoids!

Regardless of whether the Rapture has occured or not, there is still a lot of survival based stuff to learn. We hope you stick around, and figure out how to survive a more likely apocalypse. Like hyper-intelligent animals, or cats with thumbs. Or genetically engineered plants.

Take a look around, figure out your best survival techniques. Our archives are listed by topic down the side there. Start with all the posts listed in ‘Basic Survival‘, and if nothing’s kicking down the door to your house, read the rest. And if you can think of something we haven’t covered, and you want to write for us, please do contact us at info @ incaseofsurvival .com.

Don’t forget to join the facebook group, ‘like’ the official facebook page, and follow us on Twitter.

Note: If the Rapture has happened and you’re still here- God has abandoned you, you may as well start looting.*

*Please make sure the Rapture has actually happened before you do this.
