Right now Dr. Becky Sorenson has some seriously mutated frogs in her lab. In L.A. Bees are making abnormal columns on the side of the freeways. In Georgia, birds are migrating out of season. It all makes a sick kind of sense when the doctors consider that the last magnetic shift is strangely coincidental to the dinosaur die-out. And the only similarity among the problems today is that each is occurring in a ‘hotspot’ – a pocket of reversed polarity that tells them all.
THE SHIFT IS ALREADY HERE.
I’ll come right out and say it: I really, really wanted to like this book. Regardless of whether or not a catastrophe of this magnitude could be caused by a pole shift, the concept is intriguing.
Unfortunately, the execution falls flat. The book is in need of a good editorial sweep–there is a lot of clunky writing (and awkward sentences as a result). There’s also far too much telling, and the majority of the author’s transitions are quite abrupt.
The story is very jumpy because of that.
On a formatting note, the copy I had did not have scene break notation, which was rather unfortunate because random characters would suddenly turn up doing seemingly random things. Only they weren’t really random; they were in a different setting entirely, and their appearances indicated the start of a different scene.
Overall, this book was too all over the place for me to continue reading. The beginning moved very slowly and simply jumped around from character to character, setting up the plot.
By chapter five, the book was still setting up the apocalyptic pole shifting event. At this point, I lost interest in the book and put it down.
Since I did not read the book, I can’t give it a proper review.

I haven’t read this one, but I’ve actually hear the audio production is excellent. It’s a multinarrator “Audio Movie” with effects and such. Peersonally, I tend not to listen to these types of productions, but I know people who do and say the Resonance was excellent. I think some of the clunky writing and editorial issues can be smoothed out in audio.
Too bad you didn’t like this one.
